New Roof Installation at The Fieldgate Centre

Work has started on the replacement of the roof at the Fieldgate Centre. The community centre will stay open throughout the work.  The first stage is to install netting and sheeting internally for safety purposes. Stripping of the old roof and the replacement of new roofing panels will then start during week commencing 23 September. The old roof is asbestos free. The work is due to be completed before Christmas.

During the work the contractors require a sizeable compound primarily to store the large volume of roof panels. This has meant that we have had to reduce the parking area. The recycling centre operated by B&DBC has also had to be closed to help minimise the disruption to the work and the users of the community centre and the sports pitches. There will be scaffolding around the building which will be fenced off for safety purposes.  We will aim to keep disruption to a minimum for the users of the centre. We understand that car parking will be an issue during peak usage times so if you can park further away in the village and walk up that will really help.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is paying for and managing this great improvement to the centre. The Kingsclere Community Association has a lease with B&DBC for the centre and under this agreement B&DBC are responsible for the external structure of the building, excluding the doors and windows. The community association is delighted that B&DBC is making this investment as not only will the roof look good and get rid of the leaks but its thermal efficiency will be significantly better.

The new roof, along with the improvement work that the Kingsclere Community Association has already done and is planning to do, is to ensure that we have a community centre that the people of Kingsclere and the surrounding area are proud of now and for many years to come.
